The following is a real story from a real family who was ministered to by Midland Fair Havens.
As victims of domestic violence, Ella and her two children came to Fair Havens searching for a new beginning. This family was restored to emotional and spiritual stability through counseling, life skills training and intense case management.
Through the program elements and the partnerships with other community resources, Ella was also equipped to parent her two children, manage her finances and assess interpersonal relationships. With the information and skills she gained, Ella will be able to be self supportive and avoid being victimized in another harmful relationship.
After two years of residency, the family graduated from the program and moved to another community to continue their course toward a healthy independent life. Ella had received her LVN certification and worked at a health clinic before being accepted into the RN program in Ft. Stockton. She successfully completed her education and is now a full time nurse at a local hospital earning enough money to move into a home of her own.
Ella was nervous about leaving Fair Havens because of the support she was receiving. Now she looks back and says of her time in the program, “Without my time at Fair Havens, I never would be where I am today. There is no way I can express my thanks. With everything I was able to accomplish while I lived there and being on the right path to continue to succeed when I left, now my life is full of endless possibilities!”
*Ella is a fictitious name used to protect the confidentiality of the actual client described in this story.
